Briefly: The flute teaching methods and books I use vary and are based on the needs of a student. As a student advances, I also include music theory and basic ear training. A little more in-depth: As many students have begun their flute studies in their elementary school band, I look over the books and music they have been playing from in school, listen to their sound and technique, watch their posture, and make a decision on teaching books to expand and enhance their current level. I love teaching, and I firmly believe that almost anyone can be taught to do almost anything! I have music degrees from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and USF in Tampa, Florida. After teaching at Hope for 6 years, I joined the Air Force to play with the world-class musicians that make up their bands. I spent 8 1/2 years in Colorado Springs stationed at Peterson AFB, and I loved it! I then moved to Illinois to be stationed at Scott AFB, playing with the USAF Band of Mid-America. Read More
