I've been teaching most of my adult life. I started tutoring while still in high school, and I continued as a teaching assistant as a college student. I taught at Hope College for six years in a number of different subjects: saxophone, jazz ensembles, music theory, aural skills, piano class, and music appreciation. However, all musicians must have a basic grasp of technique and fundamental skills in order to express music the way they would like to. Beginning with an overall assessment of technique is essential, and working to maintain and expand that level of proficiency is important for instrumentalists. As a k-12 certified music teacher I have taught music lessons privately and to ensembles. I have also taught in the classroom setting as a long term substitute band director. I am a woodwind specialist who has made a career out of performing in pit orchestras for Broadway musicals. I have performed at regional theaters in New York and Colorado and toured the United States and Canada.
