I have an advanced level of experience in the following, Jazz, Chord Melody, Blues, Melodic Soloing, Harmony and Chord Theory, Ear Training, Fret Board understanding, and Songwriting. Most of this was honed while attending Musicians Institute. I was teaching on the side, but most of my time was spent writing, getting on stage, and growing within the industry. And that continues today. Today my living is built from teaching and working as a performing singer-songwriter throughout the city. Read More

As a Music Educator, I know that music makes a huge impact on people’s lives. It goes beyond learning and playing an instrument or singing. It has also to do with self-confidence, self-esteem, improving social and motor skills and bringing people together. Music is a unique form of expression and allows people to be creative and show the world what is their perspective of life. I am a very easy going guy, very patient with the students and I always become good friends with them. Read More

I believe music is about expression and it is rewarding to find a way to help students to develop their own style. Therefore, it is important to know the student's needs and wants in order to establish a lesson plan. After reaching this first step it is easy to create some goals for each lesson. When the student feels that his needs and wants are fulfilled in the lessons, s/he gets more confident to work on new challenges. Read More

I try to adapt my teaching style to however I see the student (or peer) is most effective in learning. Some people are more chart based, and like the bars written out in time so they can follow it in a more technical manner. Some have a hard time reading music, so they go off of feel. This is more of an intuitive approach to learning. Both are fine for me, but depending on how the student is, one may be better than the other. Read More

I began teaching ten years ago and enjoy it very much. I teach what my students want to learn, by asking them what music they listen to, and their favorite artists. To me, there's no point in teaching types of music the student has no interest in. I generally like to teach my lessons on a per-song basis, meaning we'll focus on a number of tunes, and can extract techniques and theory from those songs which in turn improve his/her playing. For my younger to play games with them that teaches them the fundamentals of music theory while also having fun during the lesson. For my older students I like to see what gets them excited during the lesson and move forward accordingly. That can be extremely different from Student to Student but I do like to stay involved with the process and positive throughout. It doesnt necessarily matter how experience they all as my usual students get up to speed within the space of a month, if not shorter. Read More

I like to mix instructional books with opportunities to learn songs outside of the text books appropriate to the student's interests, style, and skill level. For the guitar, I like Terry Carter's Rock Like the Pros, Beginning Class Guitar Method and Intermediate Class Guitar Method. These books have comprehensive practice exercises, including classical and popular music exercises, and great songs of all levels to learn. The Mel Bay and Alfred music method books are also great for guitar or drums. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
