Every student is different, so the first thing I like to do is get to know them as a musician, where they are on their instrument, and what they wish to accomplish in lessons. I want to keep the student comfortable with what they are working on and at the same time find ways to go beyond the comfort zone. I like to incorporate music fundamentals with all of my students, including notation, scales, chords, and rhythms. Read More

I have been teaching ever since my junior year in high school and have taught extensively in the jazz, folk, rock and pop idioms. I have mentored children learning guitar for the first time, adults learning guitar for the first time and experienced guitarists dedicated to honing their craft. Furthermore, as an experienced composer and songwriter, I have assisted many students with the craft of composition and presented on lyric writing. Read More

I find it is incredibly important to spend the time early on making sure your technique and form is sound and strong. This will start you off with a solid foundation that will help you play what ever musical styles you wish. I like to start students off with simple scales and melodies that will build up your dexterity, muscle memory and general ability to play the instrument. Once you can work your way around the instrument you can start learning more lessons about reading music, ear training and improvisation. Read More

My number One thing is that it has to be fun learning otherwise the students get bored easily and disinterested so I always incorporate learning real music while you’re learning theory and carefully assessing the students strong points and trouble spots all the while giving them goals and consistent practice schedule And the critical importance of using a Metronome and having excellent timing. I want more than anything for it to be an enjoyable experience as well as a growth process for them and you continually push themselves to greater limits and I always stress the importance of practicing a little bit every day for muscle memory As supposed to spread out long practice sessions and I always give them encouraging words to help propel them to new heights, I also encourage them to bring any songs they would like to learn so that they can be playing with other fellow musicians and singers as quickly as possible Read More

The most rewarding part of teaching for me is seeing how much my students have progressed after each lesson. There is nothing more I could ask for than having a student realize that when he/she walked into their first lesson, they had absolutely no idea where to even begin.. but now they can play a whole song (or even a whole album!) I make sure my students are clearly understanding the material we had gone over. Read More

My junior year culminated with a semester in New York City working in an administrative/artistic internship at the Metropolitan Opera. During school, and immediately upon graduating, I was fortunate enough to see my interest in music and theatre education realized in my work opportunities. For the past few summers, I worked at four community arts organizations, as both a teacher and an administrator. I currently work at Hartford Stage company as an education apprentice, where I serve as a teaching artist in a variety of capacities, as well as assisting with general education department logistics. Passionate about music and guitar from an early age, I first starting playing guitar when I was 13 and my older brother bought a Squire Strat. This is the Toyota Corolla of guitars. I then proceeded to play better than he did. Eventually, he stopped playing because I was better. Then I moved on to an Epiphone Les Paul. During this time, I was an extremely shy and self-conscious teenager and would not let anyone listen to my music. Read More
