My methods are not standard, I believe in teaching technical sides of an instrument and the creative sides. For younger students I will teach them the basics of chords and progressions, eventually leading to write their first songs. For young adults and adults I want to have them learn chords, styles, and the uses of their instruments. Creativity will always be the most important thing to hone. Finding inspiration through practice and jamming with a friend or even a teacher is something I want to teach. Read More

I have a very patient teaching style. I think have a calm cool manner has benefitted my students in the past because feeling pressure can be hard and make the lesson not as fun. To me, learning a new instrument should be soothing and fun and it should be rewarding also. I also communicate with my students to see what I can do to help them learn and recommend different techniques that help me learn. Read More

I have enjoyed teaching and helping students of all ages for 24 years in achieving their goals in learning to play their instruments. Educated at Columbus State University with a Music Education degree, I teach many instruments including piano, guitar, including Classical style, banjo, saxophone, clarinet and flute. If you would like to start on the trumpet or trombone, I can help you as well. I specialize in working with the novice musician, giving them a solid foundation in instrumental technique and musical knowledge. Read More

Shortly thereafter, I started teaching elementary school music and symphonic band at a private school until I was offered a scholarship to be an exchange student in the U.S., and then offered two scholarships (Tiger Scholar and LMA) to transfer to LSU (Geaux Tigers!) to finish my studies there. If a student comes in knowing absolutely nothing about music, I will start with teaching basic music theory. Extensive knowledge of music theory is not essential, but a basic grasp will make the learning process much smoother. From there - for stringed instruments - we'll move onto hand conditioning. Musicians use muscles that everyday people do not (also, playing guitar hurts until you fingers calluses). Then, we move onto chord shapes and eventually we'll learn full songs. Read More

When I was offered a gig as Billy Joe Royals guitarist it was back on the road. I've also done road work with such notables as The Classics IV and Archie Bell. After the tours I opened a recording studio and for many years I played on many artists' original songs playing guitar, keyboard and bass guitar as needed, as well as did the engineering on the tracks. During this time I began to rekindle my love of teaching guitar and began accepting students again. Read More
