For begginging piano sudents who are children I typicall being with John Thompson's "Teaching Little Fingers to Play." Once the student has completed their fundemental training we being to introduce more solo repertoire tailored to their interested. We work on one classical and one comtemporary song of their choosing. For adult piano students, we discuss their goals and what they are interested in and I tailor my instruction no matter their instrumental expereince.  For Voice students I asses each vocalist and provide a completley unique one of kind vocal lesson package tailored to the students ability, sound, and experience no matter what that may be. My methods for teaching involve the topics I learned in my Guitar Technique course. I introduce the CAGED System. Where basic open position chords are moved around the fretboard to cover scale shapes, and arpeggios. This is a great way to map the fretboard, and provide positions to improvise on solos. With this I also blend music theory in which I call the mixture "Fretboard Theory." Theory is what we cover in scales that tell what quality they have, (Major, Minor, ETC). Read More

I first started learning the guitar in high school. I found I had an affinity for the instrument so I continued to study classical guitar and piano in college. I first started giving lessons my junior year in college and have continued to teach ever since. I am also currently the music director for the Yorba Linda United Methodist Church in Yorba Linda California. For beginners, I start with the basics. I will show the student the anatomy of the guitar or bass and how to care for it. After that, I will begin to teach basic techniques. I will show how to pluck the strings and fret the notes. Once the student has a grasp of those concepts, I will teach them basic chords and scales. I will also teach the student how to sight read because in my opinion it is one of the greatest skills a musician needs. Read More
