I have found that the combination of foundational teaching and songs that accompany what was just discussed helps students feel like they are applying what they have learned to something the can show off to people to people around them. For beginners, I like to start with the basics. Students will learn proper stick positions, basic rhythms, tempo, and count. A lot of work is done primarily on the snare drum, progressing to the full set when the student is ready. Once the student has a handle on the fundamentals, I can then have them play along with a simple song. I am using a Roland V-Drums electronic set for instruction, so any source of music can be played through the set, and the drums then mixed in with the song. Read More

Perhaps the most beautiful thing about the teaching is sharing the knowledge with the students. Acquiring a new knowledge can be compared to making new big and small discoveries almost every day. It always has been rewarding and inspiring for me. (I believe its the most important part of my motivation).
