For very young piano/keyboard students, lessons go more smoothly if they know right hand and left hand, count to 10 and know ABC's. They learn to read music almost immediately, and I give them the tools to be able to pick up any piece of music and play it independently. I have maintained a studio of at least two students everywhere I have moved, and most recently taught music for a Montessori program and comnnnity college in the Virgin Islands. I normally start off by teaching them the grip for the drum stick and the basic stroke. From there I will teach them basic rhythmic patterns found in styles such as rock, pop, and jazz. I will also teach them what the notation looks like for those rhythmic patterns. From there, I will have them read more advanced rhythmic patterns and exercises that contain those pattens in simple beginning percussion books. Read More

I haven't had much teaching experience, but I have worked with teenagers throughout this last year while getting my Associates of Arts degree over at Lone Star Community College. My high school choir director asked me if I would like to start helping out high school students with providing voice lessons, and of course, I said yes. I helped out three seniors in high school this last semester, and two out of the three of them are actually heading to Texas colleges to pursue a career in music. Read More
