I am a three-time Grammy nominated multi-instrumentalist, composer, and teacher. I am proficient on saxophone, clarinet, flute, upright bass, electric bass, and piano. In 2006, I graduated with a degree in Jazz Composition with an emphasis in Saxophone Performance from the University of Texas at Austin. I believe in shaping a lesson around the student. First, I find out what the student wants to focus on more, whether it is notation and musical theory, or learning a few basic chords, strumming patterns and such, to be able to play their favorite songs. No matter their ability, this method of teaching is effective because I find that it keeps the students interested and engaged. A mix of theory and technique is always encouraged, but ultimately, I create the lessons around what the student wants. Read More

For beginning students, around ages 5-9, I start with easy songs, but also teach them how singing works. I like to teach technique, and help students improve in their singing. Once students have grasped the fundamentals of singing, I'll let them start looking at solo repertoire so they can practice for a recital performance. For intermediate and advanced students, I like to see what they are interested in to see how I can teach them, and be able to keep them more engaged. Read More
