I approach teaching as a creative coach. My goal is to build a strong foundation of knowledge and skill that the student then can use to empower their creativity. From the beginning we learn music theory and how scales work on guitar. What makes guitar special as an instrument. We learn exercises and chords to build finger strength and knowledge of the fretboard. But most importantly I open space for creative exploration. Read More

The approach I feel works best for teaching students how to play guitar, is to try to create a positive feedback loop. This can be created by finding music that the student likes and that challenges them, but isn't overly difficult to the point that they have to slog through it for months to get anywhere. I also emphasize the point of getting the guitar into their hands everyday. It helps a lot hack away at it as much as possible. Read More

Upon my college credits and experience, I decided to apply as a music teacher in both the parochial and public school systems in the U.S. Virgin Islands. My years of service extend to over 15 years of encouraging young students to appreciate the art of music. This confers my teaching position within the public school system as piano lab facilitator, junior choir director, chairman of the music department, and member of the school improvement team. I believe the only way to get better at something is through dedication and practice. We will set goals for each lesson and for each practice week. I also believe that it's better to practice a little everyday than a lot once or twice a week.Step by step, little by little, any student can reach their goals. Read More

I love seeing students realize their own progress. I always like to start with recording a first attempt and then recording it again once it has been mastered so they can see their progress. I focus on positive reinforcement teaching. It is very easy, especially for a new student, to get bogged down in not making progress fast enough so I like to make sure they see all the steps they're taking and also know where it will lead them. I first started teaching music in 2014. I began as a guitar instructor, then made my way into teaching piano, drums, and bass as well. I believe that the best way to teach a student how to play an instrument is to first teach them how to play music. In my experience I have found that allowing students to try several different instruments and participate in group jams with other musicians teaches them to fall in love with making music. Read More

I began teaching when I was in high school - working with my fellow trombonists and giving private lessons. This continued through my college years. I have been a middle school and high school band director, led choral groups, and taught guitar, theory, conducting and composition to students of all ages in the USA and overseas. My work overseas has required me to be flexible and adaptable to different styles and types of music. Read More
