I was a navy musician for 14 years and was with the navy band northeast in Newport, Rhode Island then with the US Naval Forces Europe Band.  Had a chance to perform in 28 countries between Europe and Africa including Russia, Italy, France, Greece, Nigeria and Gabon.  After four years of living in Italy, the navy moved me to Navy Band Great Lakes in Illinois.  Been a featured euphonium or trombone soloist in all three bands.  Currently I am working on a doctoral degree at the Hartt School of Music in West Hartford, CT. For a young student, typically children, I would have to cover the fundamentals of music while applying it to piano or flute to help them learn the notes, clefs, time signatures, key signatures, etc. For my lesson plans, it changes from student to student as each student is different and has different needs they need to focus on to better their musical experience. The reason is because playing the guitar looks fun, and it is. Play! I am also very excited about the popularity of the technology available to us now to have online guitar lessons. By using Skype or Facetime we can interact with each other from anywhere in the world. Awesome! This makes it possible to teach even at odd hours of the day. While I was a husband and father of small children, going to school full time and working full time, and busy being a musician on top of all of that, I would have appreciated online learning to save travel time and travel expense. Throughout high school and college, I worked at summer camps and tutoring programs, working with children and teenagers, doing everything from counseling to arts crafts, to hiking and music lessons. While in graduate school, I sang the roles of Betto di Signa in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Count Paris in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, and John Brooke in Adamo’s Little Women, all with IU Opera Theater.
