I want to avoid overwhelming you with too many new skills at once. Once basic instrument skills are solid, we shift our focus to note reading. For this, I usually use the *Essential Elements* book, mastering notes on one string at a time, starting with the D and A strings. We first focus on pitch, followed by rhythm notation. For Intermediate Students The focus shifts more toward tone quality and advanced techniques such as shifting, vibrato, improving intonation, different articulations, bow strokes, and dynamics. Hello, I'm Mackenzie B.. I'm currently a student at the University of Kansas for a Bachelors in Music Education. I am student teaching currently, which is my last step before receiving my degree. I currently work with Kerry Marsh for the KU Jazz Singers and enjoy singing both classical and jazz music. I also have two or three ukuleles and enjoy jamming with an acoustic guitar. With my beginning students, I would start them off with a method book that would teach them the basic fundamentals of playing the drum set. I have many books, and I recommend certain books based on what the student wants to learn. Once they master the fundamentals, I would introduce them to solos and charts for performance practice. For adults, I would base my lessons on their interests, keep my students engaged in their lessons, and have fun in the process. Read More
