For beginner's, I do typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books. For intermediate, I'll evaluate what materials they've used thus far in their lessons and go from there. If someone is familiar with a set of books in a positive way, there's no reason to change the books they're using. I do believe, however, there is profit in a variety of repertoire, so a diverse lesson is key. I have learned from experience that simply learning one genre (classical, jazz, showtunes) is less desirable than having a familiar ear to multiple styles. Read More

I am currently a student at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, MO. I have been playing music for over ten years and am mostly self-taught, however I have a lot of knowledge of music theory and have played professionally for a number of years. I enjoy teaching and passing on the joy of learning to others and I believe music is a necessary ingredient in our lives, no matter what age or musical preference. Read More

I am an instructor who holds his students to a high standard. In 2013 I graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a BM in Performance where I studied Dr. Alan Wenger. After that, in 2015, I received my MM in Performance from DePaul Univeristy where I studied with members of the Chicago Symphony, Chicago Lyric Opera, and Chicago Sinfonietta. Since then I have been freelancing and teaching around the Kansas City Metro Area. Read More

Instruments: Piano

I began teaching a couple years ago and have enjoyed seeing students develop a love for music and piano. If you love something, you work at it, so I highly encourage having a regular practice schedule outside of the lesson as this is a key point to developing the students skill and passion for music. Integrating different styles can help motivate the students to practice and learn, as well as making it fun. Read More

Instruments: Piano Violin Fiddle

My teaching does not only focus on students' violin playing skills, but also their aural skills and musicianship. I strongly believe that ear training benefits a student's overall musical development. My lessons typically involve listening and singing on top of regular violin playing. I also love playing simple duets with my students during lessons, so that they feel comfortable collaborating with other musicians. For beginners, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for Strings. Read More

I've been slowly teaching private lessons while I've been in the final years of college. With the KU curriculum, I have had to learn how to work with children from Pre-K to 12th grade, which means any age is something I've been prepared for. Also, I got to sing with the Intergenerational choir at KU, which would happen at the local community center with senior-aged people. I've sung jazz, musical theater, and classical pieces since high school. Read More

Instruments: Drums

With my beginning students, I would start them off with a method book that would teach them the basic fundamentals of playing the drum set. I have many books, and I recommend certain books based on what the student wants to learn. Once they master the fundamentals, I would introduce them to solos and charts for performance practice. For adults, I would base my lessons on their interests, keep my students engaged in their lessons, and have fun in the process. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
