My methods depend upon the student's level of ability. I also adapt to requirements that musical groups, such as a school band class, might have. While I have my own preferences for books, I am certainly happy to work with one that a school or other group requires. For beginning students, I start out with my own personal exercises that are designed to lay the groundwork for a trumpet player's range, endurance, and musicality. Read More

Not all students learn the same way, and it is my job as a teacher to be flexible and apply different teaching methods and styles based on the needs of an individual student. This process takes time, and I prefer to work with new students consistently and regularly during the first few months to establish a relationship, discover their individual passion for music and find their unique learning style. I hope to do this by instilling my own love and passion for music. i understand the challenges and rewards that come in learning music, and I love to share my own experiences with students to better connect and engage with students. I knew I was going to become a music teacher at the age of ten, so I absolutely understand how much of an impact teachers have on students from a young age. I have been teaching larger ensembles for most of my college years, but have had private students around my school schedule for many years. Finding what motivates the student is key. If the student isn't motivated or doesn't care, then I need to change something! Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone
I began playing trumpet at a very young age, and have found it, and music in general, to be the most valuable means of communication available to us. I graduated from University of Maryland School of Music December 2014, and have played in a number of bands (both jazz and classical), taught private lessons, and worked as a festival clinician for local schools. I feel that private lessons provide an environment where both student and teacher may learn from each other, and where that knowledge is imparted in a friendly environment at a pace that is comfortable for both of us. These regular public performances serve as measurable and invaluable milestones that mark the degrees of growth and advancement along the path of learning. SPECIAL TOPICS FOR INDIVIDUALITY AND DIVERSITY. Although I emphasize techniques and skills that are rooted in the classical tradition in order to accomplish a solid foundation, I am mindful of each students inclination and strengths. As students become more proficient in keyboard techniques and the basic musicianship, I introduce popular styles, such as jazz/blues, ragtime and rock, to broaden their horizons and explore their interests.
