Schaum Piano Course: Pre-A: The Green Book and A Dozen a Day Piano Exercises. For older students, I like to use our first complimentary 30-minute lesson to discuss their personal goals and create a basic lesson plan. With EVERY student, I implement the use of flashcards, games, videos, interactive experiences, and enjoyable homework assignments that will teach the student how to play the piano, read sheet music, understand music theory, and appreciate music as a whole. I always try to make our lessons less like a lecture and more like a jam session. When analyzing a piece of music, I strive to relay the importance of knowing exactly what you're playing. Through this, the student gains a deeper appreciate for the piece and music in general, as opposed to just cycling through a chord progression. Most lessons consist of 1/3 technique and scales, and 2/3 repertoire.
