I believe in shaping a lesson around the student. First, I find out what the student wants to focus on more, whether it is notation and musical theory, or learning a few basic chords, strumming patterns and such, to be able to play their favorite songs. No matter their ability, this method of teaching is effective because I find that it keeps the students interested and engaged. A mix of theory and technique is always encouraged, but ultimately, I create the lessons around what the student wants. Read More

I specialize in the performance and instruction of classical, operatic music, and Kindermusik, but also teach the genres of jazz, spiritual, cultural/ethnic music, and childrens music. Mymusical expertise encompasses performance, vocal technique, musical analysis, theory, and principle applications of classical music. After graduation, I began teaching and performing for organizations and schools throughout Austin. I havebeen teaching privately for over ten years, and have had the delightful privilege of teaching privately for Leander ISD for four wonderful years, and classroom music for grades K-12 at Victory Christian Center School. I like to use custom lesson plans. I evaluate the student's playing and ask what they want to improve on and/or want to learn. Based off of this, I might use rhythmic study exercises from Ted Reed's "Syncopation" or hand patterns from the book "Stick Control", playing on both a practice pad and the kit. I like to have students play a simple 8th note groove, backbeat on 2 & 4 and incorporate bass drum precision exercises, eventually using different hi hat patterns. Read More

Most of my professional tutoring experience has been in mathematics! I tutored in high school, college, and over a year at various agencies. I find the experience has helped me teach my band mates music over the years. There are many transferable skills. I've played in numerous bands over the years ranging from soft indie rock to heavy metal. My catalog of original music is extensive and there are frequently written parts for many instruments. I am an enthusiastic and passionate private flute instructor who loves working with students of all ages. I love to see students grow into better musicians with each lesson we have. In May of 2016, I graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Music Degree. I had an incredible opportunity to perform with the Texas State University Wind Symphony at the Collegiate Band Directors National Association conference in 2014. I also performed with them at the annual TMEA convention as the flute soloist. Read More

I love to play the instrument and want my students to develop that love as well. I use a carefully explained, step by step approach that is tailored to each student's personality and ability. My goal is for the student to feel as quickly as possible that he or she is really playing! I am very encouraging about accomplishments, as well as explaining clearly the particular elements that the student needs to work on to improve. Read More

I never assume a student cannot succeed. Progress comes quickly with a variety of songs supported by successive exercises and methodology. Parental involvement is highly recommended and I try to work with parents to determine motivational techniques. I have found that students need a regular practice time 4 to 5 times a week, even if it is only a few minutes at a time; but, hopefully, we can find music that they like to sit down and play. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
