My teaching experience encompasses many areas of percussion. I've been teaching private drum lessons throughout my time in college, and also served as Percussion camp counselor at Mansfield. The percussion camp at Mansfield insists vast exposure to all areas of percussion, including drum set, mallet percussion, marching percussion, steel pans, and orchestral percussion, so a wide-spread knowledge of the instruments is essential in being a counselor for the camp. For a typical lesson Ill teach half basics and theory and the other half songs or anything the students interested in. I am adamant that the student's are practicing at least 30 mins a day. For guitar I strongly recommend using Hal Leonards Guitar method books even if were only working out of it for a quarter of the lesson. For piano I recommend a Hal Leonard book without question. I do pass some handouts of pieces,exercises,etc that I feel are worthy for the student. Read More
