I have been playing since I was 10 years old, and in 2014, I graduated from Cedarville University with a BM in Keyboard Pedagogy. I spent a year in Italy teaching music to children from various backgrounds and cultures. I began teaching lessons in Texas in 2012 and have been since. My first major success as a teacher came in 2015 when I had a trumpet student of mine make the Texas ATSSB All-State Jazz Band. In my lessons, I push a strong routine of consistent practice to help improve endurance and stamina. From a young age I have been an active teacher. Advanced for my age I vividly remember tutoring my classmates in the Fourth grade. Throughout the rest of my schooling I served in some sort of volunteer tutor capacity, helping classmates and younger students. While in undergrad at DePauw University I served as an Orientation/First-Year Seminar Mentor, helping first year students adjust to campus academic and social life. I have most students start with Essential Elements for fundamentals.  Then I progress to solo and duet repertoire when the time a student is able to grasp counterpoint and rhythm well.  Adult students can often move faster due to being able to understand the math behind music.  I also try to incorporate theory and history and culture with my lessons. For a young adult or a prospective college student, I will generally focus on checking their embouchure, what their knowledge of major and minor scales are, how fluent they are reading sheet music, what reeds they should be playing on, and among things. We then move on to more advanced topics that would not be possible to cover in their band classes at their home school.
