Other than what would be the general consensus of the standard cello repertoire, and a couple of technique books which I find to be incredibly useful with one area of pedagogy or another, I do not follow any of the current methods widely available to string players. It is my firm belief that it is the job of the teacher to be both adequately well versed and acutely attentive to each individual students' strengths, flaws, and the overall nuances of their playing style to be able to recommend appropriate literature, exercises, and music that is best suited for the student. Learning to perform and understand music is a difficult journey, but one which also reaps great rewards. Performing great music with a skilled ensemble for an appreciative audience is, in my opinion, one of the great joys of life. Unfortunately, beginners are easily frustrated by their lack of facility on their instrument. I believe the teacher must guide the student toward positive practice habits including daily listening and performing, give the student unwavering support and encouragement, provide a judgment-free learning environment while also providing constructive feedback, and most importantly, be a musical role model. I have over 20 years of teaching experience. The age range has varied from 8 to 88! I teach beginning, intermediate and advanced students in intense private lessons, using traditional and non-traditional methods. The focus can be Jazz, Classical, Brazilian Choro, Klezmer and other World musics. I love to figure out how someone learns, how he responds to music, what methods are the most appropriate. It is a beautiful experience for me as well as for the student to connect to your inner voice, and to be able to express it and love it! Read More

The Key Is ENTHUSIASM! Learning an instrument is a challenging and sometimes even painful process so the key to keeping the students engaged is enthusiasm. I like to incorporate fun and practical lessons so the musician learns things that will help them be able to perform faster and more efficiently. I believe in positive reinforcement and encouragement as an instructor so students aren't afraid to mess up or feel tense. Read More

My name is Joshua. I recently graduated from Ball State University in Indiana. My passion for drumming began as a teenager, and I was fortunate enough to have a very supportive family who encouraged me to do what I loved. I will always be grateful for that. Given the right kind of support and teaching, I firmly believe that anyone with the drive to learn can have a very rewarding and fun experience with the drums. Read More
