In 2014, I graduaded from Coker College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance with a Concentration in Musical Theater. I like to teach the way I practice. In a "perfect" practice day I would pick a "mode" or specific scale (1/2 step, whole step) and play around this "idea" with a metronome. I practice in as many tonal centers as possible (out of 12). I try to find motives and rhthyms to repeat or change (must hear what's to be played before if possible). I like to use various method books since I believe every single one of them provide different pedagogical aspects. Depending on the style, genre that the student wants to learn, I make sure they have enough resources to practice themselves in their own home. For children, I try to keep it as light and fun so they won't burnout over the long journey of learning music. For teenagers and young adults I like to show the possibilities of the instrument and where they can be with persistence and for adults I'd like to guide and help them to find what they like the most and enjoy learning and playing.
