Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
By letting students practice how to improvise, students will learn not only the instrument itself, but also start to build a concept of ear-training, as well as music theory. To me, the music comes first than the music theory, which is why music theory always serves people's ear. I would have students learn how to play and hear chords, create a musical vocabulary and enjoy themselves. After letting them hear music, I will explain why they are hearing what they are hearing instead of letting them read it from a chart and not explaining why. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Music
Young students begin their instrumental journey with some basic theory lessons while we simultaneously explore the physicality of playing trumpet. From there, we begin learning fundamentals--exercises on the instrument, with breathing, and mental practice--which are reviewed with the student from beginner to professional. Solo repertoire and etude-work will be assigned to give the student the practice of performance but also to challenge and assess them on specific aspects of their journey on the instrument. Read More
Instruments: Guitar
For novice players, I generally start with a simple song, usually one by the Beatles but most importantly, a song that the student loves and will feel a great accomplishment learning in order to gain confidence. Then I delve more specifically into technique. Each song should teach a technical lesson! Read More

My guitar playing is based on feeling, so every note that I play or write on a song has some meaning to me, I am not going to play whatever just to fill up space in your record or live shows. Keeping in mind that I am from Chile, I have a different spice in my sound that you can find in Latin American artists. I am a big fan of Cumbia, Bachata, and dancing rhythms that you dont commonly find in the USA. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Saxophone Flute Clarinet
With beginning students, I start with the fundamentals of the instrument, including embouchure and finger technique, as well as the ability to breathe properly, which is fundamental to playing any wind instrument. I also introduce beginning students to basic musical concepts, such as reading music, and tailor the musical selection to their tastes or to whatever group they are playing in, most often a school band class. For more advanced students, I observe what areas the student needs the most work in and tailor the lessons specifically to dealing with those areas, as well as catering to their individual musical tastes. Instruments: Drums Orchestral Percussion
I've taught privately for over 30 years and have been teaching from my home studio in South Pasadena since 1994. Everyone who studies with me deserves as thorough a musical education as I can give them. I discuss both short and long term objectives with all new students (or their parents) before the first lesson. While its important for the teacher not the student to establish the course of study, I believe that sticking to a rigid ideology is a mistake. Read More
Instruments: Violin
One curriculum will be using the Suzuki method, where Classical music and technique will be at the core of what we do. The second curriculum will be be centered on more contemporary music; Jazz, Pop, etc. In this curriculum, we will study and learn the different keys and chords, improvisation, etc. In both paths, my students will have the opportunity to perform on an annual basis in front of other students and parents.
