Instruments: Piano Voice
Technique is certainly at the centerpiece of my teaching, for both voice and piano. You are your instrument, and training your body to produce music easily and efficiently is the primary goal. But I by no means think Classical music is the only genre of music a student should study. Both my voice and piano students are pushed to explore their musical boundaries, and learn how to play and sing a large variety of styles, from rock, to pop, jazz, and theatre. Read More

Music has always been a central theme in my life. I Started playing at a young age and my enthusiasm has never diminished. I believe music is a gift and a responsibility offering many opportunities and endless joy. Over the past 20 years I've toured the country coast to coast on a journey of musical exploration, entertaining audiences, playing with and learning from some of the brightest and most talented musicians in the world. I am an energetic and encouraging instructor who loves seeing students get excited about learning new things. I have B.M. in Acoustic Composition and Electronic Music, 10 years of playing/performing French horn, 5 rigorous years of piano instruction and performance, and a whole lifetime of singing. I wear a lot of hats in my professional life that range from composer to ethnomusicologist (specializing in UK identities and politics in music) to performer (formerly primarily horn but now primarily piano and voice) to music administrator to teacher. My teaching style depends on my student. If I have kids taking lessons, I keep the lessons fun and exciting, and make sure to include musical games to play that will allow the student to develop good aural and vocal skills. When it comes to adult students, I try to figure out their most efficient way of learning (kinesthetic, analytical, etc.) and cater to that. It's important to know that each student progresses at their own pace, but as long as they are practicing and having fun, the rest will fall into place. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
I have been teaching out of my home off and on the last 25 years. I've been the master piano teacher, rock band teacher and concert director at a music performance school the last few years but I'm back to my basic love of teaching since I've just relocated to the West coast. Because progression will produce a passion for your instrument whether it's piano or vocals, I emphasize regular and consistent weekly practice at home with times varying depending on age and proficiency. My experience is based on my dedication to music and how I have given most of my life to it. When I was a child I didn't play sports but rather I played guitar for hours a day. While going through middle school and high school I played six hours a day because I love to play so much. I know how to play bass drums and piano as well. Read More
