When I was eighteen I studied with a great teacher and accordionist, Chelso Ferrari. He taught me how to play full chords from fake books utilizing jazz sequences and transposing major, minor, and seventh chords into augmented fifths, sixths, major sevenths, and primarily diminished sevenths. In my early years I studied the Palmer method and learned many classical songs which culminated in my performing Malaguena and Rondo ala Turk at various shows. Read More

For beginning students I usually start with the Standards of Excellence series of method books. Once the student has grasped the fundamentals of playing, I will introduce solo repertoire students can begin working on to explore aspects of playing such as expression, tuning, phrasing, and different articulations. I started teaching guitar shortly after beginning the instrument in 2005. Since then I have taught guitar, and string bass consistently as well as being a classroom music teacher for the past two years. I put a lot of focus on younger students developing good habits early and help them see the benefits of regular practice as their passion for music grows. My teaching experience began in 2008, when I began teaching private lessons on various instruments, on voice, and on conducting. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014. I have enjoyed every moment of teaching music and have taken so much from the experiences that I've had.
