I'm an experienced singer and teacher and love sharing the joy of discovery of sound and music with children and young people. My degree is in classical vocal performance and I've lived all over the U.S. and maintained a teaching studio over the last 20+ years. I've taught early childhood music, led choirs for children, teens and women and have worked with many schools and churches. I always try not to push for practice assignments, students are busy for school homework, outdoor activities, family obligations, most importantly, students should have fun to play music, of course practice is important, but if students lost interest in music playing, it will be hard to continue to have lessons. My method is very personalized to the student. For piano, I love using the Faber Piano Adventure series for both little ones through adult. They do an excellent job formatting their age-appropriate materials to students and get them playing and learning to read music early on in the learning. For voice, I devise my own warm up exercises that tailor to the needs of the student. My aim is to guide students to be independent musicians, therefore lessons include vocal technique, breathing and vocal production, reading music, music theory, how to learn a piece of music effectively and efficiently. I suggest repertoire based on a student's previous experience, if any, or relate repertoire to their life experience, if appropriate. Young children often start with folk songs or rhymes, more experienced students move on to more complicated repertoire. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I often use the Andrew Scott Method for flute. When the student is considerably advance I will use the Rubank Book for flute begginers. Once the student is at a comfortable level, I will proceed to introduce him to Body Mapping. For adults, I will prefer to first of all know more about their learning abilities, other experiences with music/sports. Than, I will find out more what they are looking to learn and work from there. Learning to read, write, and play music is essentially learning another language and having taught languages for several years, I know people move at different paces.
