It is important to me that each student learns at their own pace when I teach. I dont want to force things upon students that they arent ready for, or dont want to do. Because of this, most of my curriculum is based around music of the students choosing, so they keep engaged and wanting to keep learning. Through this, I will teach the theory aspect of the music they are learning to help give a better understanding of why things work the way that they do, and the why the way they sound that way. I'm a solo and collaborative pianist and music teacher. In 2020, I graduated with a Bachelor of Music Cum Laude in Piano Performance from Rice University Shepherd School of Music. I joined the College of Music for my Master's degree in Fall 2020, studying Collaborative Piano. I have been a recurring prizewinner in MTNA competitions and made my international debut in 2016, playing Mozart Concerto K. 466 with orchestra from my the Universidad de Alicante in Perugia, Italy. I have tried almost every method book available. Once I have met a student, it is important that I find instruction books that I hope will be appealing to the student. Basic theory is absolutely fundamental to learning to play. There are many different theory books as well as online theory lessons. However, at the very beginning of lessons, I like to use manuscript paper and ask the student to write his/her own music. Read More

I take a very individual approach to my teaching plans- each student has their own attention spans, goals, interests and abilities! When I was first learning piano, I was frustrated by the music choices my teacher was picking for me and this usually made me not in the mood to practice. Over the years I've collected, written and purchased various pieces and exercises for both piano and percussion that allow me to create custom lessons for my students. Read More

The key goal for me as a teacher is making sure that my student is enjoying what they're doing. Music is supposed to be fun after all! I achieve this by allowing my student to progress at their own pace while they develop both their knowledge of music and their enjoyment of the craft. I like to really dig into fundamentals by making sure that they are FUNdamentals! A student will learn more if they are enjoying the process, and that is key to making a long lasting impact, and instilling in a student that they will have all the tools they need to become the best musician they can. My method is definitively circumstantial to the student. If the student is hoping to perform casually, then we advance at a casual pace. If the student is hoping to perform competitively, we go much faster. Either way, I hope to transfer the art into a lens that grabs the student's heart and attention, since propelling the art - regardless of life circumstance - is my primary ambition. Read More

My teaching style is receptive and warm, but focused. I use goal-setting as a satisfying and organized way to break down musical lessons, which means lessons time is well spent and students have a good understanding of how and what to practice. Students remain engaged and satisfied with this approach, which provides proof of the progress that is taking place in lessons and in private practice time. Since music learning is highly cumulative, it's important to me that students have a thorough understanding of principles before moving on to new ones. Read More
