Teaching is the most rewarding aspect of my career as it is an important way for me to share music with others. I first started teaching private flute lessons in 2013 working primarily with K-12 students. In 2015, I taught flute sectionals and music classes for middle school students as a counselor at the University of Colorado Boulder Summer Music Academy. I also served as Event Coordinator for the University of Colorado Boulder's Teaching Peace Through Music chapter, where I helped plan and promote classes on music education and learned from instructors working with underprivileged youth. Despite the challenges of running the organization, this experience was overall rewarding. For others, I believe these types of organizations will provide opportunities for future generations. For myself, I discovered that nothing excites me more than working with people to conceive a good vision and see it through to fruition. I have been teaching bass and guitar for 10+ years. Even in high school I had several students part time. For me, spreading my passion and love for music to others has been a source of great joy. For beginners I often start with the Standard of Excellence, but it does not take long before we start to get into more individualized education. For example, a student may be bound for high school jazz band, in which case we will immediately begin on music theory and scale/mode practice from as early as 5th grade. On the other hand, I may have a high school flute student who wants to audition for conservatory, in which case I would use some Marcel Moyse books, orchestral excerpt practice, and standard solo repertoire.
