Instruments: Piano

For very young beginning students, I typically start with Faber Piano Adventures, and for older beginners, the Faber Accelerated Piano Adventures or Hal Leonard Adult Learner Series. Once the student has shown an understanding of basic theory and technique, classical repertoire will be introduced, along with level appropriate arrangements of the student's choice music. It's important that the student is taught how to practice a piece effectively to continue growing musically in between lessons, so that lessons can be used to find areas for improvement, and to learn new concepts and material. Instruments: Piano Trumpet

Music has been a long-time passion for me since I was a kid. In 2003, I was a 3rd grader in Carpenter Elementary School in Lake Orion learning about the orchestra, when one of the 5th grade students or one of my classmates brought his trumpet with him. I knew right then and there that playing trumpet would be my passion and sure enough I got it for Christmas along with a private trumpet teacher, who taught me to master the horn till I was in the 10-11 grade in Goodrich. More than anything music should be fun. The greatest musicians are the ones who enjoy playing music even when they're just practicing. I like to teach in a way that involves asking the student questions in order to get them to figure out the answer for themself, rather than just lecturing the whole time while they start daydreaming! This way the student is more involved in the learning process and it can make their time spent learning an instrument more worth it. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice

During the first lesson I have the student sing (if it is a vocal lesson) their favorite song so I can hear them. After that i use my keyboard and take the student through some excersizes to really home in on that range. I listen for qualities and we discuss the positives and what improvements are needed. After the first lesson we choose music: a classical art song book and theory book of my choosing, and a songbook of the student's choosing. Read More

I like to use "Piano Adventures by Faber". Also I  teach music theory and ear training. My students musical interests are important to me. I try to find materials that they will enjoy playing. Children must be thought not what to think but how to think. I ask my students to try to find the answer themselves not always giving them the answer.    Read More

I carefully watch and listen to my students' progress. If the material selection seems hard, I encourage him/her to take such material at a later time. Depending on the age of the student, I had students from those who looked up to me for guidance of music to those who set their own music goals. As a result, I adapted myself to the level and age of my students wishes and goals. Read More

Music is my calling in life. My career in teaching started 30 + years ago and it has truly been a pleasure to see my students light up when they learn the songs they love. I started by offering private lessons in 1992 and soon had many requests from other students. I offer lessons for both electric and acoustic guitar as well as piano. Along with instrumental lessons, I teach music theory workshops for song-writers and music engineering workshops for musicians. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
