I began teaching lessons at age 14 to young neighborhood beginners. As I progressed through the years, I expanded my range of student ability from beginner to upper intermediate, and from ages 6 to... well, older than me and I'm now 60! I have taught hundreds of students and enjoyed every one of them. I find that the more effort, especially in consistent and efficient practice (to be explained and demonstrated by me), that my students put in, the more pleasure and satisfaction they get out of it! I have taught siblings in a class type setting. I have taught preschoolers at preschool. I have taught Little Mozarts to little ones. I use music in the homes already, sometimes I provide things from the 50s that my aunt and uncle scribbled in: leila Fletcher, Edna Mae Burnam, classical composers-mozart, debussy, chopan, clementi, beethoven, bach. Sometimes I provide my own children's music books, Faber and Faber, Bastien, Alfred. I have taught preschool through adults.I substitute teach and have included composers in my repertoire. Read More

I encourage my students to practice smart instead of long. This is especially important for young students. I teach my students to self-evaluate their own playing. When difficult areas are recognized, this is where the practicing focus should be. Above all, music should be enjoyable! Hard work disguised as FUN is my goal. I am great at giving positive feedback. I enjoy celebrating success. I feel that it is important to let the student set the pace and then encourage from there. Read More

My favorite part about teaching is teaching beginners. It's so much fun to introduce a brand new instrument to someone and show them all that learning music has to offer. I mainly focus on the basics of music, and music theory in order to give students the tools they need to teach themselves when I'm not around, or if lessons have to discontinue for some reason. Once the basics of music theory have been grasped, it makes learning the technical aspects of the new instrument much faster, and easier. Read More

I use the Piano Adventures method for most of my beginners. I generally include materials from a variety of sources, especially if the student needs more work in a particular area. I do have other methods that I use as needed, Piano Pronto, Supersonics, and Carol Matz Interactive Piano. There is also the option of going method-less, focusing on the skills that are in each piece of music. I also have a vast library of studio licensed materials that I share with students, most of them without cost to you. Read More

There are many teaching methods for music performance. I choose the method which is suitable to an individual student. From the early childhood up to adult age. I am able to provide the materials with music notation and theory of both Classical and Jazz styles. Once I recognize the ability of each individual student I choose the path of development to everyone separately. I believe everyone is an individual and to help him grow musically the best way to teach is to discover the point of advance then choose the individual way of education. Read More

I am mainly using Alfred's Premier Piano series in my curriculum for beginning students who are children. I include material from other method books that help meet the needs I want for my students. It is very important for any student at any level to have a strong technical foundation starting with proper posture and hand shape. When learning new songs and pieces, I start off with aural experiences for the students, especially when rhythm is difficult. Read More
