The bottom line is that although it takes years to develop a strong, skillful and sensitive singer, it should not take years for a singer with good tutelage and a willingness to work hard, to sing competently. What I like to do in my studio is, set realistic goals for the student. I use "challenges" to help students achieve their goals. And reward them when they achieve them. I like using a lot of games as well to make piano learning fun. So I teach a lot of theory aspects using games with timers, and flash cards, dry erase dices and prizes when goals are meant.
