For beginning students, I will usually go with a methods book, requiring them to learn 5 finger patterns, and then eventually major and minor scales(all three forms). Once the student has progressed from the beginner methods book, I will suggest classical repertoire for each student based on their preferences and personal skill level. I had so much fun working with the elementary school kids that I decided to build a studio up of my own and ever since i have been working with a number of students ages ranging from 4-80.
