Every child has their own way of learning. Some are visual, others aural, verbal or kinesthetic. As a teacher I will adapt my lessons to each child needs. For piano- I teach out of several method books- Faber, Bastein, John Thompson and Alfred's. I also implement Dozen a Day for piano technique and Hanon and scales. I use Czerny for the intermediate student. For voice- I work to build a solid understanding of breath, posture, vowel sounds and shapes, singing legato, etc. I believe a classical technique in both instruments is the best foundation for growth into any style. While playing in a jazz combo in college I was asked to teach guitar to a couple of people. From there I gradually built up piano and guitar students over the years on a part-time basis. I've taught children through adults in many styles: rock, pop, folk, jazz, classical, and r&b. There, I taught dance classes and sing alongs, meditation groups, cooking groups general life skills. I have also lead music in nursing homes for patients with dementia/Alzheimers.
