Of course, every student is different, and an integral part of my philosophy involves getting to know each student so that I may learn their creative preferences, strengths, and weaknessness. I do not shy away from books, I do indeed enjoy working out of the Hal Leonard collection because I appreciate the step by step structure. This may apply less to guitar, however, if the student's primary ambitions are to learn songs by Green Day or The Beatles, etc. Read More

The most rewarding thing about teaching is seeing my students cultivate their love for music, and self-confidence in their sound! In order to best achieve this, the most fundamental understanding is that each student learns and progresses at his or her own pace! With this in mind, I believe the best way to achieve results is to set realistic goals for each lesson - goals that utilize skills practiced in the lesson, yet set the stage for the next lesson are most ideal. What works for a 5 year old child, doesn't work for an autistic child. I’m flexible in my teaching, some students prefer classical music more than others. Im willing to try a new music style; if one loves a piece one will practice it in addition to the given piece that develops his(her) finger technique, dynamics, phrasing, articulation, so children can perform a song rather than simply reproduce notes. I am a lifelong student of music. I began playing the guitar at a very young age, 7 years old, and was playing in public by the time I was 12 years old. Around this time I took a correspondence course in Arranging from the then Berklee School of Music, which did eventually also become my alma mater and I even began teaching for my teacher. I have played and performed throughout the new England states as a solo performer and in bands/ensembles, and have had some of my orchestral works performed by the Prague Symphony Orchestra, truly an achievement for a kid who grew up as a rocker. I'm a pianist, accordionist, arranger, and composer. I find a lot of joy in learning and understanding music. The styles I specialize in on piano are ragtime and early jazz, and Latin and French music on the accordion. Although this is my specialty, it certainly isn't the limits of what I am able to teach. I perform as the accordionist for a Manouche Jazz band named Heliotrope Swing, we play around Boston and really thrive on the joy that people find in our music. Read More
