I believe that it is very important for any singer to have a music theory background, so I make sure to include in any of my vocal lessons basic keyboard knowledge. Further, I have found that it is important to incorporate all types of music in lessons. Learning all sorts of style in music is crucial to continue growing as a performer. Finally, it is important for a student to enjoy their lessons and find passion in their own music. Read More

I started teaching neighborhood kids while I was in high school and have continued to inspire my students throughout my university studies. I am currently with several lesson providing companies as well as a music school in Torrance where we have monthly recitals. I strive to make every lesson different, tailored to individual student’s needs, whether he or she is a beginning toddler or in need of advanced technique. Read More

There is nothing more rewarding to me than a seeing a student play that song they love so much for the very first time. Many times, they never thought they would EVER be able to play it, but yet in only a few lessons hdere they are, playing it! I have a skill for breaking down what seems like a complicated subject, and explaining in the most simplfied way that everyone can understand, no matter their backround. Read More

First of all, I would ask the student if music would be his/her career or just a hobby. If it is to be his/her career, my approach would be more theoretical. But if it would be just a hobby like mine, I would encourage the student to learn by ear supplemented with a little theory to be able to learn a musical piece or song in the shortest time possible. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Music for Little Mozart, Alfred Premier Piano Course, or Faber Piano Adventures. Once the student has progressed to have grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for them. For adults, I try to find out what they are interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun. I especially encourage my students to practice four to five hours per day, because it helps the students to develop techniques and strength for fingers. Read More

I'm a firm believer in self motivation. Having a good teacher is important but having a great student is paramount. I love to develop concepts that work for the individual student whom I'm relaying ideas to. Whether it is theory or academia or the idea of honest expression, all these facets of teaching have always been inspiring to me. I can mock up many different playing situations to accommodate any level of player. Read More

Listening is the most important thing. If you don't know how your instrument sounds and how the great masters sounded when playing it, you will never develop a sound. So I highly encourage all my students to constantly listen to music and understand a little bit of the history and legacy behind their instrument. This way, they will understand where they are coming from, and where to go Read More
