My methods are the ones that works more for the student. For some reason some methods work better with certain people. One method can be tedious for a student and easy and fun for another. Hal Leonard's can be a good tool. I can use to many different books. Also I can write down specific exercises special for the student. Some times a student can learn faster without a book. Read More

I approach teaching in layers. Step one leads to step two, we cant skip steps! I find it important that for beginners we follow this structure. More advanced students will be on a case by case basis in regards to where we start. I emphasize imprivisation in every lesson weather it be on drums, piano or trombone. Playing music right off the top of your head, and in the moment is something you can't learn out of a book! Read More

I started teaching neighborhood kids while I was in high school and have continued to inspire my students throughout my university studies. I am currently with several lesson providing companies as well as a music school in Torrance where we have monthly recitals. I strive to make every lesson different, tailored to individual student’s needs, whether he or she is a beginning toddler or in need of advanced technique. Read More

Additionally, some other books that I use with my drum set students are Syncopation by Ted Reed, The Art of Bop by John Riley, The Essence of Afro-Cuban Percussion, and The Essence of Brazillian Percussion by Ed Uribe. For more advanced students, I work on trancriptions of their favorite drummers, chart reading by playing with recordings or live musicians, improvisation over musical forms, and developing indivdual exercises for each student. Teaching has been a constant through my musical journey, mainly in person. I have not had the opportunity to be as consistent, because of my performance schedule. Online learning platforms have begun to open my eyes to endless opportunities. Both the challenge and the reenforced learning have been the most rewarding teaching experiences. No two students are alike, so understanding an individual's learning style and interests in music is the best approach. Read More

I have taught private lessons with the guitar, piano, didgeridoo, ukulele. I usually try to find out where the student is at and their goals and try to build off of that giving them tools to keep them going and to inspire and create insight. Each lesson I give them a focal point like learning a scale and get them to focus different musical aspects such working on fingering, rhythm, tone, loudness or softness, phrasing. Read More

In my teaching I aim to first assess where the student's skill level currently stands. I focus on being able to continuously develop a student's ear, theory knowledge, techique, and sight-reading. While working in these areas, I like to connect with the student on their individual goals and what they want to work on in their lessons. My teachers from over the years would also assign me songs that I wasn't a fan of at first, but I soon learned to love from working on them. Read More
