I use a variety of methods and tries to match the method to the personality of the student.  Some of my favorite beginning methods are Faber & Faber, the Music Tree and Bastien. I try to get the student into actual repertoire as quickly as possible and like to use familiar folk tunes as a gateway to more traditional classical music. I have advanced marching band/drumline experience, playing each different drum for multiple performances. I have performed in parades and football games, and competitively in settings like the Lucas Oil Stadium and Ross-Ade Stadium. Additionally, I am adept in concert/orchestral performance, having participated in large and small ensembles at Ball State University. For children who are just starting, I use Bastien Piano Basics Primer Level-Level 2. From here, students graduate to selections primarily from Bach, Chopin and Beethoven. For adults I use Alfred's beginner adult course. I also supplement these books with several books that I have in my personal library, such as Keith's Snell's Essential Piano Repertoire. For scales I use Keith Snell's series and for technique I use Schaum's Fingerpower series. Read More
