The most rewarding thing about teaching is seeing my students cultivate their love for music, and self-confidence in their sound! In order to best achieve this, the most fundamental understanding is that each student learns and progresses at his or her own pace! With this in mind, I believe the best way to achieve results is to set realistic goals for each lesson - goals that utilize skills practiced in the lesson, yet set the stage for the next lesson are most ideal. Hi there! Im Matt H., a guitar and piano teacher in Watertown, Massachusetts. I was mostly self-taught growing up, playing around on instruments and making music on my computer, before formally studying music at Bennington College where I focused on composition and earned scholarships as a top music student. Since then Ive played guitar, piano, and even a little mandolin in various bands and projects in the Boston area. After a few years I started to focus more on teaching while starting a family and spending some time as a stay-at-home dad. Read More

A full hour lesson usually consists of an instructional course book, a song or two that the student enjoys plus ear training, theory, harmony or else according to the students' needs, interest and the level. Tailoring the lesson for each student and having fun with him/her is the key! Younger students would need more structure with practice guide and be having more synesthetic activities such as sining, tapping, mild dancing and more. Read More

I have an eclectic style of teaching and may use different methods for different students. I want my students to be able to understand music and be able to play long after our lessons are over. I discuss theory and harmony as we work on different pieces. I usually end lessons by improvising along with students, or doing ear training games, which both children and adults love. Read More

Missing home and nature, I moved back to Massachusetts and took up teaching. I began teaching students in-home, prior to purchasing my baby grand piano which I currently use in my studio today! I went back to school to obtain my Masters of Music in Music Education, and continued to perform but this time in rock bands! I am currently in three rock bands, Rocket Queen (A tribute to Guns N' Roses), NOTB (a tribute to Iron Maiden), and NIB (a tribute to Black Sabbath). Read More

It is to connect the unsaid messages by the composer through musical notes, and one must go beyond the surface of mere notes to fully decipher (or even sublime) the artistic intents. Then, one must learn how to be a good storyteller, first in a spoken language, then in songs, and lastly through the instruments. I hold a Doctorate in Applied Mathematics from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, a Master's from NYU, and two Bachelor's degrees from the University of Southern California in Mathematics and Economics. I'm a recent transplant to Brooklyn, NY after spending seven wonderful years studying and working in Boston! Originally from Gainesville, Florida, I first learned piano, then added saxophone, clarinet, flute, and bass in my middle and high school years. I went on to receive a Bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and a Master's degree from the New England Conservatory in Boston. I'm excited to pass my love of many genres of music onto my students through the teaching experience I've built over the years! Read More
