After graduation I went and taught in Chicago for a few years and Greenville SC where I was the music teacher in both schools. If a student is not progressing i would give him great advice and praise to get him motivated to practice and watch him improve as well. I encourage my students to not get frustrated. there is a method, and it does not take long to recognize the methods, and how they fall together. We gradually increase the tempo over the next several weeks. Pieces like that will be rehearsed at the end of each lesson after working through a few passages in Alfreds book. At the beginning, I ask my adults what music theyre interested in learning. For beginning students on guitar i typically start wih Hal Leonards book 1. With about 50 pages in this book, we can go thru at a steady pace and be playing songs from the beginning. Makeing music from the very beginning is the key ! Even the simple one line practice exercizes i back up with a harmonic chordal accompaniment for a satisfying duet.
