My teaching experience goes back to when I taught piano lessons in high school. Since then I have continued to teach private lessons throughout college. I now teach music at Kansas City Public Schools. One of the key components to my teaching is helping my students find a way to enjoy making music. I like to provide fun supplemental activities as well as their regular lesson books. I also enjoy finding my students as many performance opportunities as possible so they can show off their hard work! Read More

Teaching is my passion! I have been a private piano and voice instructor for over 10 years, as well as a classroom teacher for over 12. I love finding the gifts in all students and nurturing those gifts by sharing my love of music and knowledge. I graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. My career as a musician has given me many enriching opportunities to be involved in vocal performances and teacher-led performances over the last 12 years. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trombone Euphonium Tuba
I like beginning students to work out of the method recommended by their band teacher, until they are ready to start playing from Rubanks elementary method for trombone. From there students can progress to the advanced method, and work from Arbans method and Rochuts melodious etudes. Students interested in orchestral playing can start with Blazhevichs Clef Studies. Duets corresponding to the students level are played at the start of each lesson to help develop the students sound and intonation. Read More

For beginning students on Piano, I like to start with Alfred's Basic Piano Books. For clarinet: H. Klose. For Viola and Violin:Suzuki. There is a small amount of leewayI allot for those students who are exemptional. These booksoffer easy ways for begining students to learn the rudiments and mechanics of their particular instrument.Once progression is being made in the development of rudiments and mechanics, I start to incorporate solo works to spice up the learning experience. Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice Organ Ukulele Recorder Keyboard Djembe
For beginner's, I do typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books. For intermediate, I'll evaluate what materials they've used thus far in their lessons and go from there. If someone is familiar with a set of books in a positive way, there's no reason to change the books they're using. I do believe, however, there is profit in a variety of repertoire, so a diverse lesson is key. I have learned from experience that simply learning one genre (classical, jazz, showtunes) is less desirable than having a familiar ear to multiple styles. Read More
