For beginning students I start with a simple five note scale, how to hold or sit with the instrument, and an easy tune such as mary had a little lamb or happy birthday; Some students get that in the first lesson and some take a couple weeks everyone has their own process. My first ever performance was at a piano recital as a 6-year old. By the 5th grade I was performing with a genuine garage band, making our debut performance headlining at our elementary schools talent show. From that time forward I've been in countless multifarious bands and have been performing music in some form or other ever since. For age 0-4, I have opened Zumbini program for those babies and their caregivers. My piano lessons start at age 4. For those beginner students, I use Piano Adventures from Faber and Faber, typically focused on lesson books, performance books and theory books. When students move on to the higher levels, I will start to introduce easy classical repertoire, such as J.S. Bach or Bergermuller.
