I am a dedicated teacher who enjoys working with students of all levels. I graduated from the Hartt School of Music of the University of Hartford in 2013 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. The operatic roles that I performed while at the Hartt School include Leila in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe and The Strawberry Woman in Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. My methods are largely dependent on each individual student - their own learning styles, goals, and interests guide the methods I use. For many of my beginning students who are children, I start with Faber's piano adventures. I use a mixture of method books, repetoire, and my own theory exercises until students can grasp solo repetoire. I also help students compose their own music, which we have fun doing! For my piano students, I like to use a mixture of books from the Alfred, Bastien, and John W. Schaum collections. I eventually assign more advanced solo repertoire as the student progresses. For my vocal students, I pick music based on their interests and vocal qualities. I have taught my students musical theater, opera, art song, gospel, pop, and many other styles throughout the years. I also like to make sure my students have a solid understanding in music theory and often give out worksheets that help them practice how to sight read, recognize different key signatures, and more. I have taught children and adults. I especially delight in helping beginners discover the beauties of music, the keyboard instruments and their classical repertoire, and the basics of music notation. Some of my students have been music majors who went on to become music professionals. Others have been non majors who wanted to learn music in order to expand their cultural horizons, experience the discipline and pleasures of performing an instrument and to learn to perform the pieces they always wanted to play. I started taking piano lessons at the age of 5. As a I continued to take piano lessons, I eventually in middle school began to study with a professor from Julliard until entering the university. I graduated from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University with a Bachelors of Music degree in piano performance. However, I started teaching right away and have enjoyed teaching for over 40 years.
