I am comfortable teaching with many piano methods. Some of my favorites include Alfred, Faber and A Dozen a Day Series. For more advanced students, I often recommend the Music for Millions Series or Bastien Piano Literature. For jazz, I often use Hal Leonard's "Your First Fake Book" and the "Joy of Jazz". All my students also get a strong foundation in scales and theory. I also stress learning all the notes on the grand staff and there are many good apps for this on tablets and smart phones. Advanced For high school students who want to hone their skills, and possibly study music at the collegiate level. During our lessons we will work on performing upper level saxophone literature, learning jazz standards, improvisation, advanced music theory (including jazz theory), and complex technical exercises in all 12 keys. Clarinet: Beginner Students who want to pick up clarinet will be taught the fundamentals of the instrument. For my trumpet students I use Arbans, Clarkes. Schlossberg, and 45 years of experience playing trumpet. As to a philosophy of teaching, I believe in never ever being mean to the student as that causes a negative experience.
