I always like to give the opportunity to the students to work on the material that they are more interested in. If the lesson is with a beginning student I work mostly on technique and when I feel the student is ready we move on to repertoire. Some people really enjoy learning from books and exercises, while others are more engaged learning songs and music that they listen to.
