I started teaching in 2009 in Mississippi. I taught 6th grade band (beginner), 7th grade band, and high school. I taught in Mississippi for 5 years and just recently moved to Tennessee. While teaching, I've given private lessons to some of my students after school and to some students who did not attend my school. I always encourage doing a recital, entering competitions, and continuing on to college playing their instrument. I love motivating students and challenging them to be the best and nothing less. I am a pianist and mallet percussionist. I grew up playing piano and percussion and double majored in both instruments in college. I work primarily a pianist in town but will occasionally go on the road as a jazz vibraphonist with various groups. I've toured playing various genres with several bands in over four continents. I have also taught as an adjunct professor at two different universities. As a performer my greatest accomplishments have been performing with such jazz greats as Clark Terry, Herbie Hancock, and Kenny Garrett. Read More

I have been teaching over the last 4.5 years, either in my home, traveling, or online, and as well as for a jazz academy. Teaching has shown me that I can inspire my students to enjoy what they are learning, even if it gets hard. It is all worth the practice! I love to see my students succeed and want them to desire to continue play music. I also want to see them having fun during their lessons and be able to motivate them to have fun even while practicing at home. Read More

For beginner guitar students I use Mel Bays You Can Teach Yourself guitar . I emphasize chords and technique and playing melodies. For piano students I teach students first to listen and immitate and then read. Once they master some basics in reading music I introduce chords. My vocal students start each lesson with warmups and apply the techniques to the songs that they are learning. I believe in making lessons fun and enjoyable but at the same time emphasize the importance of daily practice. Read More
