I then continued teaching once in college by volunteering at local high schools helping new students to the band programs learn brass and percussion. I began to teach private lessons when I was in college in the year 2005. I started in a small music shop called McKinney Music where I taught in a back storage room. I taught beginning snare drum, piano and drum set. I had an experience there where a young 7 year old student who didn't practice and it showed. Typically with the younger students, I do like to incorporate a lot of games, challenges, and rewards to help them find their motivation. For the younger students who are just beginning their journey we will learn out of Hal Leonard's books for guitar or Piano Adventures for piano students. As a student progresses we will begin to take the learning outside of these books and more to music theory, technique, and to the application of these practices onto the instrument.
