For beginning piano students who are children, I usually start with John Thompson's "Teaching Little Fingers To Play."  Once the student has progressed and becomes more familiar with reading the notes in both clefs, I will begin to introduce solo pieces of music that the child picks out of the choices I present to them.  I do this to help encourage and reward the child with their success.  For adult piano students, I find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly. For piano beginning students who are children I typically start with Alfred Piano Method books and for guitar students will start with Mel Bay Guitar Level I .I work in dual teaching techniques Theory and performance .Student has to be familiar with reading the music notes to be able to play them on the instrument .Once the student has progress to have a grasp of the fundamentals in music theory and performance I will begin preparing them for their recitals and later on competitions . I began teaching while I was pursuing my undergraduate degree at Malone University, where I earned a degree in Commercial Music Technology, but also studied piano pedagogy. I taught students through the Piano Preparatory department at Malone for two years. After graduating and moving to New York, I began to teach privately.
