I have experience teaching complete beginners to seasoned musicians. I have taught in-studio lessons, in-home lessons, and also have experience teaching private lessons. I have helped many students with reaching their goals, whether that is physically playing a particular piece, understanding the theory behind one of their favorite pieces, understanding how to create their own compositions, as well as other goals. This has been under many different genres like classical, jazz, rock. blues, funk, etc.. Read More

I teach a variety of music to a variety of people, ranging from classical composition to hip-hop songwriting and production, classical voice to pop, rock, and punk vocals, baroque piano to free jazz synthesizers, and maybe noteverything in between, but I try to get close.I have been teaching privately since 2006, with a special focus on teaching both children and adults with special needs. On top of that, I also am an adjunct instructor and engineer at Borough Manhattan Community College, where I teach students and other faculty alike the ins and outs of the recording studio. Read More

If needed, I tell them what I expect for the next lesson to give them specific goals to achieve. To keep students engaged, I ask questions; such as how they think they could improve, how they would want to express a phrase, or how does the music make them feel. I encourage my students to incorporate their ideas into their playing, and if they do not have their own ideas, I work toward pushing them in a direction of independent thinking. Read More

Comprehensive method individually structured for each student. Books depending on level and age start with Standard of Excellence and are individually chosen to support the student. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

I subscribe to the Faber and Faber Method, Suzuki Method and Bastien Classical Series for beginning students. The repertoire is supplemented with technical and sight reading exercises. I especially subsribe to the Hanon Exercises which are a great tool for building finger strength, dexterity and technical mastery. I expect my students to have a firm understanding of a variety of scales and chords (considered to be the building blocks of music) for which I subscribe to the Guild Musicianship Book as a good starting point. In high school, I first started working with kids through Special Olympics, mission trips, and church. As an educator, I am soft-spoken, patient, and warm, creating an understanding environment. My expectations of my students, though high, are extremely clear. It is up to the educator to modify for every student. I believes that the importance of music in the schools allows students to connect with each art and more importantly, themselves, foster responsibility, and discover a potential lifelong joy in music making. I have been teaching using the Suzuki method for more than 20 years. I love working with young kids because I understand the value of introducing them to music at a young age. They will become fluent in a musical language that they will carry with them throughout their lives. For more advanced students, I enjoy the challenge of training them to produce a professional quality sound when they play advanced repertoire. Read More
