After high school I traveled to Western Michigan University, where I began studying bass trombone full time, under the tutelage of Dr. Read More

I cater my teaching to the students needs as an individual and their goals. I am interested in fostering their inate musical abilities, as well as the musical skills they wish to obtain. If the student is in a school instrumental program, I always defer to the band director as the student spends more time with them. I will take the students progress seriously, and expect them to do the same, so I make sure the expectation to practice is clear. Read More

I started teaching private lessons during my undergraduate degree at Northern Michigan University. I partnered up with the local middle and high school to teach one on one lessons as well as group sectionals. For the year and a half that I taught this groups of trombonists I learned a lot about how to cater my teachings to each individual student, as not everyone learns in the same ways. I have done marching band, concert bands, orchestras, jazz bands, funk groups, brass bands, trombone choirs, and even rock groups over the 15 years I have been playing the trombone. Read More

I have had experience teaching lessons ever since I was in college. I have developed into a highly effective teacher, motivator, and musician throughout the years and feel confident that my students will succeed when they take lessons with me. Practice has helped me to reach the level I am at, and that is one of the main things I will stress. Yes, the musical aspects of the lesson are important, and they are addressed at every lesson, but to refine and perfect those musical aspects students must practice. Read More

Seeing my students succeed is one of the most gratifying things for me. Success in students can be measured in so many ways, and each individual will have different goals. My job is to match my students where they are at, and try to bring them to the next level. Working with individual students, I like to get the opinion of the student as to what they believe they want to work on, and use that an overlying theme for what we work on, as well as what I recommend.
