The point of music is to have fun creating art, sharing that gift, all while learning a skill that not many others are able to learn, but here are so many other benefits from what you learn that can be utilized for the rest of your life. These lessons include, but are not limited to discipline, work ethic, focus, problem solving, compassion, historical knowledge, and countless others. I am aware that not every person I teach will continue playing music for the rest of their lives, but if I can instill some of those above stated principles into my students, then that is a success in my book. I am a passionate instructor who loves to share in his excitement and enthusiasm for music and bringing joy to peoples' lives. In 2012, I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Tuba/Low Brass performance from Saint Joseph's College in IN. Following the music, I have been blessed to share in this universal language on stages small and large, near and far; from the streets of Austin, TX, to the largest churches in Rome, Italy. Read More

Depending on the age level, we will then move on to etudes (short study pieces) and short exercises meant to develop technique. I stress the study of etudes not only to develop technique but more importantly to develop the student's own unique musical inner voice. I suggest the student keep a practice journal to maintain an efficient, focused and effective practice. My lessons end with a review and time to answer any questions the student may have. Read More

I've been very lucky to have had fantastic teachers throughout my musical career. I try to adapt the same methods that they used with me while I was first learning to play. I pretty much tailor lessons to each specific student's needs as there are no 2 students who are exactly the same. Everyone will have different things they do well and it is my job as the teacher to help them develop the specific things that they need to work on. Read More

I want my students to find enjoyment and purpose from making music first and foremost. Every student has a unique set of skills, and not every student learns the same way. I believe that something valuable can be learned from any single piece of music. Etude books, like Voxman's Selected Studies, and Rochut's Melodious Etudes are my go to for daily practice, but are not the only option available. I like to take a pragmatic approach to teaching, and will modify any exercises and routines as needed to get the best result from each student. Read More
