I am a freelance trombonist and composer in the Twin Cities area, performing across a wide variety of genres, including classical, jazz, pop, and latin music. I graduated in 2012 with a degree in Music Performance from Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where I studied with Rick Gaynor and Dr. Jeremy Kolwinska. Prior to college I studied trombone under John Tranter. I began teaching clarinet lessons as a college student in 1990, and got my first job as a band director in 1993. I have not taught lessons in a home studio setting (only at school), but would be able to teach students in my home if desired, or would travel to students' homes or teach online if preferred. After working out of the book for an apropriate amount of time, I introduce solo repertiore from both pop and classical genres. I Introduce solo and ensemble rep as quickly as possible also along with familiar tunes the student requests.older students and adults are canvasses as to where there musical interests lie. My philosophy in teaching is that a good understanding of the foundation of music and the instrument will lead to self sufficiency in learning. I aim to teach my students not just to be dependant on myself as the instructor, but to be able to problem solve and learn on their own if they run into a question and an instructor is unavailable.
