Practicing also teaches us how to be patient and doing it efficiently leading to success. Read More

Jacobs approach of "song and wind" is the basis for my teaching style. It is essential as a brass player to focus on hearing the sound in your mind, training your ear, and allowing your body to produce the result without intervention. To train students to hear the sound, to learn to play with others, I believe strongly in demonstrating examples on the trombone for the student, playing things back and forth, and sometimes playing together. I believe each of us learn differently; for some students I find that they are very hands on and prefer that I show them how to do something and then allow them to perfect it others I find that they need a little more guidance and need me to go at a slower pace but regardless of the student's learning language I take my time to understand where they are and outline a plan to help them exceed to the next level.
