In my lessons, I take an integrated approach to music education, drawing connections between music of practically any style, genre, or tradition; between musical technique, analysis, and expression; and between music as an abstract entity (e.g., a score, an acoustic phenomenon) and the cultural and historical context in which it is both composed and performed. I work on music not only from the Western classical tradition, but also from pop, rock, jazz, and folk music from around the world, as I believe all musical styles are worthy of exploration and consideration. I specialize in teaching classical Suzuki method, however, my teaching skills are broad. Starting from beginner level students and teaching them technicalities and specifics of classical violin to teaching students of any age creative writing and spontaneous playing. I also specialize in creative pop song writing and alternative recording. This includes training students who see themselves pursuing playing violin for bands and in more diverse musical cultures. I train everyone with at least a basic skill set and understanding of classical violin and sight reading, then allow them to choose if they want to stick with classical violin or dive into ear training and creative writing. For beginning string student's, I use Essential Elements for Strings and Schroeder method books. Once the student has grasped the basic fundamentals and note reading, I begin to introduce solo repertoire from the Suzuki String method. Along with technical studies and solo repertoire, the student will learn scales ranging from one to four octaves. For beginning piano student's, I use the Bastein Piano series.
