If I have kids taking lessons, I keep the lessons fun and exciting, and make sure to include musical games to play that will allow the student to develop good aural and vocal skills. When it comes to adult students, I try to figure out their most efficient way of learning (kinesthetic, analytical, etc.) and cater to that. Since then, I've maintained a voice studio from my home and remotely, as I've traveled and moved around the country for singing work. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
