Hi I'm Joanna and have been teaching 25 years 31/2 to 80 years old.. I teach piano in sight reading, theory, chords, composition, transposing. I have a passion to teach my students dynamics and build up their confidence. In voice I teach breathing techniques and also studied Alexander for 4 years, I develop their confidence and help with auditions for competitions and theater arts. Vocal students are encouraged to pick songs from whatever genre sparks their interest.  With violin and viola I use the suzuki method of training and follow the books and lessons, and I use other books to supplement scales/technique.  If a student already has musical literature I am very open to using that to build a specific curriculum for that student. As I mentioned before, my teaching style can best be described as easygoing, but precise and adapted to each students needs. I focus on the person trying to learn as much as on the learning itself. Yet, Im not demanding or harsh in my delivery or expectations. Rather than a standard, vanilla approach, I try learn my students personality, learning style, and sense of humor pretty quickly and work to adapt the facts and knowledge of music to each student as an individual human, not an appointment. I love teaching and connecting on a personal level with my students. My singing experience dates back to high school where I sang in concert choirs as well as an award winning jazz ensemble. From there I attended Orange Coast College, where I studied music theory, jazz and pop vocals.
